We own the moon now. We own all
water rights, air rights, subterranean
rights, streaming rights, sequel rights,
theme park and merchandising rights,
we own the moon’s name, its image
and likeness rights including the right to
put the moon in a commercial to sell
you caffeine siphoned from the sun.
We negotiated hard. Made our lawyers
purchase the heaviest books, use briefcases
made of pure pewter, maintain the most litigious
hair. We paid them a hefty retainer.
We tried to be reasonable. We agreed
to limited signage. To robust consultation.
We agreed to pay for everything
when the moon gets cancer.
